Allergies Types and Symptoms with Treatment

Allergies are abnormal immune system reactions to things that are typically harmless to most people. When you're allergic to something, your immune system mistakenly believes that this substance is harmful to your body. (Substances that cause allergic reactions, such as certain foods, dust, plant pollen, or medicines, are known as allergens.)

In an attempt to protect the body, the immune system of the allergic person produces antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE). Those antibodies then cause mast cells (allergy cells in the body) to release chemicals, including histamine, into the bloodstream to defend against the allergen "invader."

Why Do People Get Allergies?

The tendency to develop allergies is often hereditary, which means it can be passed down through your genes. (Thanks a lot, Mom and Dad!) However, just because a parent or sibling might have allergies, that doesn't mean you will definitely get them, too. A person usually doesn't inherit a particular allergy, just the likelihood of having allergies.

Common airborne allergies include:

• Pollen allergies. • Seasonal allergies. • Tree allergies. • Plant allergies. • Grass allergies.

Common Allergens

Mold.

Mold is common where water tends to collect, such as shower curtains, window moldings and damp basements. It can also be found in rotting logs, hay, mulches, commercial peat moss, compost piles and leaf litter. This allergy is usually worse during humid and rainy weather.

How to Control Mold Pores?

The filters are quite effective but if you live in a high mold area such as I do then the filter by itself simply cannot keep up with the reproductive rate of the mold. Remember how a colony of molds can organize and grow SO FAST that a 6" tall mushroom can grow up from the ground organizing millions of cells from midnight to sun-up.

A form of "Birth Control" for mold is available in the form of an inexpensive mold light. You may have seen this type light in the comb box at the Barber's Shop. It has been used for years to "kill" bacteria, which it does fairly effectively. It doesn't "kill" mold spores but it is about 100% effective at rendering STERILE any spores that drift by the light in the air currents in your home.

Dust Mites

Dust mites are microscopic organisms that live in the dust found in all dwellings and workplaces. House dust, as well as some house furnishings, contains microscopic mites. Dust mites are perhaps the most common cause of perennial allergic rhinitis.

Symptoms of Allergies to Airborne Substances

The signs and symptoms are familiar to many:

• Sneezing often accompanied by a runny or clogged nose • Coughing and postnasal drip • Itching eyes, nose, and throat • Allergic shiners (dark circles under the eyes caused by increased blood flow near the sinuses) • Watering eyes

Treatment for Airborne Allergy

People prone to airborne allergy must avoid the causes of allergies. Doctors prescribe certain drugs that help treat airborne allergy. First line treatments like anti-inflammatory nasal sprays, antihistamines- sprays and drops, and decongestant combinations bring relief from airborne allergies. When these fail to provide relief the second line treatment is used. These consist of decongestant sprays and tablets.
